Arlene S.Harrison

Bio

Arlene S. Harrison, also known as the “Mayor of Gramercy Park”, is a Trustee of Gramercy Park and the founder in 1993 of The Gramercy Park Block Association. Since then, she has served as its President.  The GPBA is a powerful, highly-respected community organization of over 2,000 people. 

Arlene was a dedicated special education teacher in New York City’s public school system for thirty-three years before her retirement.  When the New York City Board of Education was setting up their new Special Education District in the 1970s, Arlene was selected to be the model teacher for it.

Arlene now devotes all her time as a tireless advocate for the Gramercy Park community and the surrounding area. Her focus is public safety, crime prevention, quality of life, community service, historic preservation, and the economic development of the greater neighborhood.
 
Arlene is a graduate of Cornell and Columbia Universities.
