Bio

Jan Lee, a third generation Chinatown resident, graduated from The LaGuardia Highschool of Music and Art (The Castle on the hill), and received his business degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont. 

In 1992 he founded Sinotique, an antiques and home furnishings gallery. In recent months he relocated the gallery to his DUMBO Brooklyn where his appointment only showroom highlights his own furniture line, and the work of other up and coming NYC artists and artisans.  He is a contributing antiques editor at Cottages and Gardens Publications, www.cottages-gardens.com, with magazines in Westchester, Connecticut, and The Hamptons.

He also writes for the newly launched www.newfocuson.com, founded by Meg Wendy.

Lee is proud to volunteer as a vice president on the executive board of Hamilton Madison House www.hmhonline.org one of the City's oldest and most respected settlement houses, located on the Lower East Side.

He continually advocates for small business and works as a volunteer member of The Civic Center Residents Coalition - a community watchdog group representing over 5000 residents and small businesses. www.ccrcnyc.com Most recently, CCRC was instrumental in protecting the rights of children, seniors and small businesses as an opponent to locating the "Terror Trials - of Kalid Sheik Mohammed" in Chinatown.

My Work
One of my most recent pieces. The Meditation Chair is made of solid American walnut with African Bubinga. 70 mortise and tenon joints. Inspired by 17th century Chinese designs.
