"This charming family-owned Lower Eastsider will 'make you crazy for more.'" – Zagat.com
Leah Tinari and husband Martin Kirchoff opened Fatta Cuckoo in 2011. Leah, an artist, and Marty, a set builder, were thrilled to get their hands on this storefront, located on the very flavorful and vibrant Clinton Street. Growing up with grandparents who made their own wine and jarred tomatoes every year, Leah always wanted to have a little restaurant of her own.
The name "Fatta Cuckoo" was inspired by a phrase that Leah's Grandma Millie used to say to her and her siblings after a meal – it went along with a funny little hand gesture.
The restaurant's small American menu allows for the kitchen to be influenced by different cuisines and leaves room for creative daily specials. Highlights include Seared Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes over mixed greens with an Old Bay aoili; Mom's Meatloaf stuffed with roasted vegetables, parmigiano reggiano over mashed potatoes in a mushroom and roasted red pepper sauce; and Macaroni & Cheese with mozzarella, cheddar, goat cheese and parmigiano, with an herb and bacon crumble (pictured).
Fatta Cuckoo has a refreshing sparkle that only the right amount of care and "cuckoo" can produce.
