About Smoochie Baby
Smoochie Baby began its roots in Toronto, Canada, after mother and founder Penelope Stipanovich's son Max was born. As a native New Yorker and an experienced retailer, Penelope moved from the East Village to Toronto, in order to be closer to family and to open Smoochie Baby. Just 18 months later, Penelope and her family decided to move back to New York and reopen the store in Brooklyn, despite its immediate success in Toronto.
The move to Williamsburg turned out to be one of the best decisions Penelope and her family had made. Only six months into the new Brooklyn location, Smoochie Baby became one of the most successful childrens shops in the area, leading to the offical launch of their online site in 2009.
Unlike other chain retail shops, Smoochie Baby is owned and operated by the caring mind of a mother and her family. All clothing and items are handpicked from the absolute best in kids fashion, fun, education and design.

Smoochie Baby is a gem…with a selection of eclectic, high-end baby goods. The shop carries pint-sized ensembles for les enfants en vogue, and none of the typical cutesy, plastic junk. Wooden, classic learning toys and rocker gear can be found on shelves and racks lining the walls of the lime green punctured space. Popular items include Kingsley T-shirts, fully functional mini electric guitars ($100) and books like “The Punk Alphabet.” The owners are a fashionable Canadian couple who think dressing kids should be fun; and when you can deck them out in Creative Recreation kicks, Joe’s Jeans and fedoras, it certainly is. - Lauren Norkin
The owners of this great store are really the heart and soul of what can only be described as a "one of the coolest" children's stores I have ever shopped at. The staff are always friendly and know so much about the products they sell. They have classic family fun movies and games for the kids to watch and play while you shop and the prices are fantastic. …[Smoochie Baby] are only place in the whole tri-state area that carry a brand of sneakers from Europe that we love for our daughter. We ended buying a raincoat, several shirts, 3 pairs of shoes, a jacket, and some toys and games that turned out to be our daughter’s favorite. And the staff even gave us a small discount on some of the items when we asked because we got so much stuff!
