Life can often be rough for your feet and every now and again, the pain can become too much to ignore. Getting a pedicure may help your feet look lovely, but it is important to make sure they feel good too.

Maintaining the architecture of your foot, the plantar fascia is the connective tissue on the plantar surface of the heel. Overuse and injury of this tissue can cause a common clinical condition, due to traction degeneration of the plantar fascial band, called plantar fasciitis. As a resule, this condition can cause symptoms of inflammation, fibrosis, and decreased vascularization of the fascia occurs, leading to heel pain.

Family Foot Care/1800-Foot-123 treats plantar fasciitis pain by using a non-invasive and non-surgical treatment, called Extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT).

The ESWT device generates shockwaves that are focused on the targeted tissues to trigger the body's own repair mechanisms. The concept of shockwave therapy for orthopedic conditions is to stimulate and reactivate healing that encourages revascularization and other elements to promote normal tissue healing. This treatment can also be useful in dealing with sensitivity and pain as it overstimulates pain transmission nerves.

There are several factors that come into plantar fasciitis including foot pronation, obesity, improper fitting shoes, minor trauma, exercise and other occupational risks. As with many foot injuries this is usually found in people like athletes, runners and overweight individuals.

The ESWT treatment is generally only used after at least six months of chronic plantar fasciitis. Other treatments that Family Foot Care/1800-Foot-123 recommends before seeking this treatment include physical therapy, heel cushions, rest, anti-inflammatory drugs, and shoe modifications.

As opposed to surgery, ESWT from Family Foot Care/1800-Foot-123 has fewer side effects and a shortened period of healing. Other side effects like minor bruising, swelling or redness usually resolves itself in only a few days.
