Over the years, I have seen several people go into the gym for 90 days or so and then stop, never to return. This is the problem that media and advertising has lead us to believe: That getting in shape only takes 10 minutes.
I am here, as a certified personal trainer at Steve Sweat NYC, to say that this could not be further from the truth.
Sure, we can get you in shape in 90 days or less, or get you started on that path. We can get you looking better for the wedding or upcoming vacation, but let's be honest- You owe yourself, and your body, more than that. There are numerous vacations and events all throughout your life, but you only ever have one body.
Let me ask you this: Does your body only deserve to look good and feel good for certain events in your life, or does it deserve to be its best every day?
Another myth exists, claiming that working out is easy. Unfortunately, it's not, but it can become fun, and easier, as you build up your energy, stamina, strength and overall endurance. Why not be stronger and faster? Why not become able to run to the train for more than a few seconds, or easily jog to catch the bus? What happens if the elevators are broken and you are late to a business meeting on the sixth floor?
No problem.
This is what we have to do every day, so why not be more prepared and more efficient at it, while looking fabulous as you do it?
But you have no time, right? Wrong. Everyone can find 45 minutes a few times a week. Don't make excuses. You only get one body and it’s your sole responsibility to take care of it. The job can wait, the kids can wait, everything can wait. Your health and body must come first, otherwise you may not last long enough to take care of all those other things.
Consistently challenging your body is a basic function, one which is often ignored, ultimately adding to the deterioration of your well-being. Your body will only perform at its best when you challenge it, which, in return, makes life easier for you. The key to a successful life is to consistently challenge yourself and your body; as long as you're alive, your body needs that challenge to strive. Don’t give up on yourself or fall back on excuses, and don't just reward your body, mind and confidence when it is time for that "big event." Reward yourself for the rest of your life by getting in shape and staying in shape. Let yourself fall in love with fitness.
