Event Details: Thu Sep 8, 2011 - 10:00am at BravinLee ( 526 W. 26th St., bet. 10th & 11th Aves. )

The BravinLee Gallery is showcasing three immensely fascinating exhibits beginning this September.

Katie Armstrong’s Once More, Once More channels the prototype of pop culture through various art mediums. Centered on Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time,” Armstrong’s aim is to ascertain the inexplicable appeal and inexorable success of Spears and this pivotal song.  The exhibit features animated pieces set to Armstrong’s own rendition of the song. The exhibit’s ultimate purpose is to delve into the world of storytelling from the perspective of an Internet-crazed, URL-obsessed persona.

Lisa Kellner’s Love is a Place exhibits her paintings on Mylar. By combining the natural effects of raw pigment poured onto a canvas with hand drawn circles, Kellner constructs a work that is both spontaneous and entirely controlled, depicting the result when opposing forces collide.  Similar to the multi-faceted art that is incorporated into Armstrong’s work, Kellner derives influences from literature, as her titles are named after e.e. cummings’ poetry.

Finally, Melissa Meyer’s handmade book that contains twelve watercolors on 100 percent rag paper is the manifestation of her most profound influences: the art of dance, the structure of architecture, the tonal qualities of film noir and the gestural movement of actors.

All three exhibits open Thursday, Sept. 8. Armstrong and Kellner’s works will be showcased until Oct. 15, while Meyer’s will be up until Nov. 24.
