The Tea Series offers an up close and personal way to experience jazz and new music at Theaterlab, the premier downtown salon for experimental theater and performance. On Sunday, February 27 at 2 p.m. adventurous music fans will have a rare opportunity to experience compositions by Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, and Eddie Harris for solo tuba.

Joseph Daley, MacDowell Award-winning artist, will premiere the African Sonata as well as the classic tunes with pedals, gadgets, and electronic gear. As an added bonus, the first 25 concert attendees will receive a free CD of Joseph Daley’s music.

327 Daley is a low brass specialist on tuba and euphonium. He has performed and recorded with Taj Mahal, Muhal Richard Abrams, Carla Bley, Bill Cole, Jayne Cortez, Bill Dixon, Dave Douglas, Ellery Eskelin, Gil Evans, George Gruntz, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, Howard Johnson's GRAVITY band, Sam Rivers, Cecil Taylor, Hazmat Modine, Assif Tsahar and The Brass Reeds Ensemble, and more.

Billed as “a lovely Sunday afternoon 'hang, new music, art, tea and great people,” The Tea Series is a monthly new music and jazz series. Featured past performers include Will Calhoun (Grammy Award-winning drummer for Living Colour), Gwen Laster, Kevin Norton, Sonya Robinson, Hui Cox, Serge Pesce, Reggie Nicholson, Rale Micic and more.

General admission tickets are $15, $10 for students, and $7.50 for children 12 and under.

The Tea Series is curated by Nioka Workman and produced by Loft Art Productions in association with Arts & Education Continuum, Bruce Mack's Free World Radio and Theaterlab.

Theaterlab is located at 137 West 14th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
