Last fall, T. Schreiber Studio and Theatre won the 2011 Outstanding Production of a Full Length Play New York Innovative Theatre Award for Balm in Gilead, Lanford Wilson's epic word poem that featured more than 32 performers on stage.
Now the Studio, which has been home to Edward Norton, Maria Bello, Peter Sarsgaard and more, sets its sights on The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Tony Award-nominated playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis. Terry Schreiber, Founder and Artistic Director, will direct the compelling dramedy, which begins previews February 22nd.
The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is signature Guirgis: equally pious and profance, hilarious and moving. The play follows a wild and exciting trial, set in a court room somewhere between Heaven and Hell. Two attorneys and a parade of famous witnesses – Mother Teresa, Sigmund Freud and Pontius Pilate – argue over the fate of Judas Iscariot, known for his betrayal of Jesus. The play, though, is more concerned with offering a gritty and raucous look at free will, destiny, faith, forgiveness and redemption. Religion has never been this real or this much fun.
The Last Days of Judas Iscariot runs February 22 through April 8, Wednesday through Friday at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm at T. Schreiber Studio and Theatre (151 West 26th St., between 6th & 7th Ave.; Subway: 1 to 28th or C/E to 23rd). Tickets are $20 at www.tschreiber.org or by calling 866-811-4111.
