1500 Gallery is presenting Hidra, an exhibition of color photographs by the Japanese/Brazilian artist, Hirosuke Kitamura. The exhibit, on display from February 1 through April 28, consists of 11 works, including a diptych and a triptych.

On Wednesday, February 1, enjoy an opening reception from 6-8 p.m.

The title Hidra refers to the create of Greek mythology. Kitamura, or "Oske" as he is known, came to Brazil from Japan in 1990 as an exchange student. He studied at the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia in 1993 before started his career as a photographer in 1995.

The exhibit is curated by Miguel Rio Branco, who tells Art Cat, "Something quietly emerges at every moment throughout these images: ghosts halfway between sex and death; fragments of seduction that wander in-between lost worlds."
