David Wright may finally come through in the clutch.

Astoria-based architect David Wright, not related to the Mets' All-Star third baseman, sees his design to extend the L train from Williamsburg to the United Nations as Manhattan's next great subway expansion, according to DNAinfo.

The re-designed L train, which would also connect Penn Station to Grand Central Station, follows West 34th Street and 11th Avenue's new 7 train stop, continues through Penn Station and moves up toward Grand Central Station before its grand U.N. finale.

"It seems really weird at first, [but] it would work really well for NYC subway riders by connecting virtually all subway lines and adding connections only makes travel easier," wrote Wright an in e-mail.

Since there are currently no subway stations in the area west of Eighth Avenue, Wright believes the subway expansion would also serve to unlock more of the West Side and make Hudson Yards more relevant.

Despite all the benefits of Wright's plan, the MTA does not currently have the funds to make the multi-billion dollar project a reality.
