The City of New York York took a big step towards building the final section of the High Line in launching the public review process for a zoning text amendment.

The High Line Text Amendment consists of two aspects crucial to bringing the High Line's final section closer to a reality.

First, it secures the future of the Eastern Rail Yards portion of the High Line to be used as public open space.

Second, it outlines the framework for the funding that will require about 30 percent of the estimated $90 million total cost of the final section.

With the Eastern Rail Yards' future and funding now secure, the High Line Text Amendment has added a great deal of momentum to the project.

Since the NYC Department of City Planning referred the application earlier today, the public review process, known as the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure, is now officially underway.

The next step will be a joint session of the Chelsea Preservation and Planning Committee and the Clinton Hells Kitchen Land Use Committee in public meeting held by Community Board 4.
