Blue Note is looking to play a tune in the Meatpacking District.
The club's owner, Steve Bensusan, revealed that he is planning a three-floor venue at 22 Little W. 12th Street at a Community Board 2 meeting Thursday night, reports DNAinfo.
Bensusan, who also owns B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Midtown and The Highline Ballroom in Chelsea, told the CB2's State Liquor Authority advisory committee he hopes to turn the landmarked building's sixth and seventh floors into dining rooms and the basement into a small live music venue.
"The late-night jam session in New York -- we're hoping to reestablish that in this location," said Bensusan at the meeting.
The basement club could hold about 80 people, would feature live jazz and R&B and provide an outlet for upcoming artists, Bensusan said. Since he hopes the dining rooms will be serving Japanese food, the name would not be "Blue Note," but most likely reflect the asian cuisine.
About a dozen locals stayed late at the meeting to voice their opinion on the proposed project. Plans for a seventh-floor terrace at the club were scrapped after neighbors complained about the potential noise.
The committee's final vote was not available Thursday night.
