Event Details: Sun Feb 26, 2012 - 4:00pm at Museum at Eldridge Street ( 12 Eldridge St., bet. Division and Canal sts. )

The Museum at Eldridge Street will be screening the rarely seen film, Hester Street, by Joan Micklin Silver on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3:00 p.m.

The landmark film is being showcased at the landmark site. Hester Street is based on an 1896 story by Jewish Daily Forward editor Abraham Cahan, and traces the comic and poignant story of protagonists Jake and Gitl, who are Russian immigrants with very different ideas about Americanization.

Regina Stein, the museum's resident scholar, will introduce the film and lead a discussion following the screening. The discussion aims to focus on the production of the film and its presentation of the American Jewish immigrant experience on New York’s Lower East Side.

The film screening is free with Museum admission.
