And people hate the autocorrect on their smartphones.

According the New York Post, am embarassing spelling error has been defacing the streets since sometime last summer and naturally was not the mistake of the city - that does nothing wrong - but a utility provider following repair work done on Stanton street.

What should have said "SCHOOL," simply read, "SHCOOL."

Apparently the spelling error was, in fact, present since the summer of 2010, Con Ed told the Post.

Rene Anaya, the assistant principle from Lower East Side Preparatory High School told the Post, "One of the teachers said to me, 'I'm busy grading papers...I'm not grading the city on their spelling.'"

It's been reported that in the interest of expediancy, only the "H" and "C" were replaced. Interestingly enough, when you know the first and last letters of a word are correct, it doesn't really matter how its spelled - your brain will rearrange the letters.

Regardless, the error was corrected sometime yesterday, and though it was a rushed job, at least we know the city or contractors, or whomever is to blame, are capable of working quickly when sufficiently humiliated, according to the Lo Down.
