An MTA worker walking along the tracks inside the Bowery J train stop saved a woman from a violent sex attacker, the Daily News reports.
According to reports, the victim was a 36-year-old Asian woman who spotted the worker's light as she was being attacked and screamed for help.
"That saved her life," one of the sources told the Daily News of the MTA worker's light.
NYPD officials say the alleged attacker, Michael Torres, 29, has 27 prior arrests dating back to 1996 for mostly assault and drugs. Torres' was charged after his photo was ID'd at a nearby shelter.
Torres targeted the woman just after 1 a.m. Wednesday at the J train stop at Bowery and Delancey streets. "He throws her on the tracks, drags her into the tunnel, beats, rapes and sodomizes her," a police source said. He allegedly forced the woman to perform a sex act while threatening her with a screwdriver.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
