Remakes are never as good as the originals.
Several sources report that famed 70s music club CBGB may be reopening under new, yet unnamed, management. Details are scarce and the new owners do not wish to reveal themselves until redevelopment is underway, but did tell the The Local East Village, "We bought the entire estate, the physical assets of the former club," which was taken apart as a theatrical unit so in theory it could be put back together in all its glory.
A spokesman said they had to court founder Hilly Kristal's daughter Lisa for seven months in order to prove that this ownership will hold up to the legacy of CBGB through loud music and by supporting new bands.
The scarcity of information on this revitalization leaves much to be desired. However, speakers for the new owners are not wavering on the fact it will open, the only question is when. It's also being said that a new location is being furnished with artifacts held in a Williamsburg storage unit.
The bar was stashed in a trailer in Connecticut, the awning pawned off on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and whatever was left over was dumped in the storage unit, The New York Times reported.
The the former CBGB space is occupied by the pricey John Varvatos boutique, which The Local calls a "clear symbol of the rapid transformation of the Bowery and East Village since the club's closing."
