A former "Friends" star making enemies? These stories write themselves.
David Schwimmer recently purchased and destroyed an East Village townhouse destined for landmark status, according to the New York Post.
The 331 E. 6th Street townhouse, built in 1852, was one of the oldest on its block and was just two doors down from the National Historic landmark Community Synagogue.
Schwimmer purchased the $4.1 million property in 2010. The 25-foot-wide townhouse's original zoning permits allowed for an increase from its 7,750 square feet to 9,000.
Not only did the 45-year-old actor ignore the zoning permits, but he completely ignored notices from the city Landmarks Preservation Commission stating that the townhouse could get landmark status by 2012's end.
By September 2011, the damage had been done and the building gone forever.
Residents of the neighborhood did not support Schimmer's decision.
"If I see Schwimmer on the street, I'll be sure to give him my two cents!" said 37-year block association member Charlett Hobart.
Schwimmer purchased the townhouse through 331 East 6th Street Townhouse LLC. Although his name is not attached to the deal, its been confirmed that he is the owner.
City records indicate that a six-story mansion with an elevator and roof terrace is likely to emerge in the former landmark candidate's space.
