You'll need drunken taste buds to enjoy this.
Steve Cuozzo of the New York Post recently checked out the new Bowery Diner and left it with a lowly one star rating.
"If it was 2 a.m. and I was really drunk, I'd probably think this was great," a customer told the Post.
Luckily, the Bowery Diner does stay open that late so it technically has some greatness in it.
However, diners who show up sober at more common eating hours will likely be disappointed.
Owner Mathieu Palombino gave more attention to "fun" that food quality.
"Calamari and frisee weirdly sprinkled with parmigiano cheese is a dish whose time has yet to come. [The] Whelks are snails bigger than escargots and nine times tougher. Un-tenderized, cooked and served whole in scary, sharp-edged shells, no amount of "escargot-style" garlic and butter can make them palatable," said Cuozzo.
Despite the variety of french fries available, they all bottomed out.
The best entrees were the conventional ones like grilled bass and skate buttery and boneless with squash puree.
The Bowery Diner was highlighted by its friendly service, a dangerous niche in the restaurant business.
