Residents surrounding the Gramercy Park Hotel have become increasingly irritated at the seemingly chaotic and noisy parties held inside the building. Residents claim that the lavish soirees are causing an unavoidable disturbance to the typically serene neighborhood.
Tenants in the adjacent apartment buildings have complained to hotel management as well as Community Board 6 and to New York's information hotline.
DNAinfo reports that on Tuesday night, several residents attended a meeting of the 13th Police Precinct Community Council to try and settle the grievance.
The hotel is the venue for many upscale parties, such as Fashion Week after-parties, live musical performances, and general get-togethers, all of which residents claim to have become more unruly in recent days.
The NYPD has begun testing noise levels in various apartments around the hotel to see if the music and bass levels are breaking city ordinance. Hotel manager Elizabeth Mao states that the hotel routinely conducts several rounds of sound testing to ensure it is in compliance.
