Architects and enthusiasts alike can rest assured now that a new bookstore focusing on those interests is opening in Flatiron District next month. The Real Deal reports Van Alen Books, an off-shoot of Van Alen Institute: Projects in Public Architecture, will be replacing Urban Center Books' spot as the go-to for literature exclusively on architecture and urbanism.
The store is set to open on West 22nd Street and will "inhabit what feels like more spacious quarters suitable not only for stocking books but also for holding readings, discussions, debates and, just possibly, the occasional brawl," says The Real Deal. A 14-foot staircase formed from stacks of 70 recycled doors is also expected to don the space, creating the feeling of an "amphitheater," according to the site.
