The Museum of Modern Art is hosting its annual two-week showcase of recent nonfiction film and media. Established in 2001, The Documentary Fortnight is an international festival for documentary and non-fiction film through Feb. 28.
The museum presents an international selection of creative categories that examine the relationship between contemporary art and non-fiction filmmaking.
This year’s festival includes both feature-length and short documentary films, covering a wide range of topics. Some films include When The Bough Breaks by director Ji Dan. The film follows two young girls growing up in poverty on the outskirts of Beijing, and their struggled pursuit for education.
The film Taken by Storm: The Art of Storm Thorgerson and Hipnosis is a documentary that examines the eccentric and iconic design firm behind some of the most famous album covers of all time. Directed by Roddy Bogawa, the film follows artist Storm Thorgerson as he reflects on his creation of the famous Hipgnosis design team, and the creation of surrealist album art for iconic bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Yes, and Muse.
The 2012 Documentary Fortnight runs through February 28.
