Sunday, December 11th was a busy day for me and Madison. Plenty of holiday events for us to attend, including the ASPCA’s third annual Blessing of the Animals at Christ Church on Park Avenue and 60th St., and then down to Hotel Eventi on 29th St. and Sixth Avenue for photos with Santa Paws.

We met up with a few friends at the church, which was packed, standing room only, listening to the brief sermon, and watched ASPCA volunteers walk down the aisle with their herd of animals, including chickens, goats, sheep, and of course, dogs and cats. Even the NYPD brought some K9 and mounted units (horses) to be blessed. Then it was our turn. Several priests (led by Minister Stephen Bauman) and a rabbi (Peter J. Rubenstein) were on hand to bless each animal individually and wish us all happy holidays. And the Brooklyn Youth Choir sang joyful songs and hymns to spread holiday cheer. Outside, the ASPCA van showcased several animals up for adoption and also collected toys for homeless animals in need at NYC’s Animal Care & Control (ACC).

Then we were off to Hotel Eventi, a very dog friendly NYC hotel, to have our picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, courtesy of Metro-Mix.  Just inside the lobby was a lovely tree, where Santa and family were sitting and taking photos with all the good little girl and boy dogs, who whispered into Santa’s ear what they wanted most for the holidays. I don’t know what Madison’s wish was, but my guess, she asked for more play time with mommy (she’s got enough toys, clothes and treats!). The humans had fun treats, hot chocolate and chocolate kisses, to satiate their sweet tooth while they mingled with other dog parents.

All in all, a very fun day for Madison and I. We’ll look forward to it again next year. Happy holidays to all!
