The United Nations HQ got a delivery of unexpected proportions - and weight - of textbooks. Placed inside "makeshift unauthorized diplomatic pouches," were nearly 40 lbs. of cocaine stuffed in hollowed out textbooks, the Daily News reports.
Paul Browne, a U.N. spokesperson, say the pouches that were found in hollowed out books raised suspicions when they were being scanned because it was stamped by an odd looking U.N. logo, according to the Huffington Post.
In a statement released by Browne, it's emphasized that "Neither the United Nations nor anyone located in the United Nations was the intended recipient," according to the Daily News, further corrobratted by U.N. undersecretary-general for safety and security Gregory B. Starr told Huffington Post that "there is nothing to indicate that this had anything to do with anybody at the United Nations."
The shipment had made its way from Mexico City via a DHL shipping facility in Cincinnati before making its way to the private postal processing at the U.N.
Undersecretary Starr and Mr. Browne are stressing that this was simply a mail delivery blunder.
