The controversial Megabus stop at the Port Authority Bus Terminal can continue to operate through April.

According to DNAinfo, the discount carrier will be able to have a three-month trial period under the ruling by State Supreme Court Justice Eileen Rakower. A coalition of bus companies operating inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal filed suit against the Department of Transportation for giving Megabus a stop free of charge.

Megabus' competitors - Greyhound, Peter Pan Bus Lines and Adirondack Transit Lines - pay a combined $10 million a year to use the Port Authority. Megabus is able to pick up and drop off passengers on West 41st Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues, which their competitors say gives them all the advantages of the site without paying for it.

They also say the Megabus stop lacks proper access for disabled passengers and would cause traffic congestion. When the buses are stopped, they block a lane of traffic.

Two of Megabus' competitors who filed suit had previously requested a stop in the same area and were turned down, according to court documents obtained by DNAinfo.

Seems that no matter where Megabus goes, they cause mega problems. Their previous operating site on Ninth Avenue garnered complaints of congested sidewalks, unsafe conditions and exhaust from idling buses.
