Some say the Garment District is disappearing and the removal of two Jack Lubin murals from the area is adding fuel to the controversy. According to The New York Times, Savanna, a real-estate firm that purchased 1375 Broadway, is planning on remoddeling the building which includes plans to remove both Jack Lubin murals which depict garment workers.

Savanna aquired the building which is used primarily for non-garment industry related business last year for $135 million with plans to raise rents, the Times writes. One of the Lubin murals is already taken down and, those worried about the future of the second are also concered about the state of what it represents – the Garment District itself. As rents increase, those in the fashion and design industry will struggle to maintain their place in the neighborhood and may be force to move elsewhere.

Visit The New York Times for more information on the Jack Lubin murals.

Address: 1375 Broadway, at W. 37th St.
