California based Tutor Perini has been hired to build the $4 billion Hudson Yards project, NY Daily News reports.
Officials state that rising costs, endless red tape as well as the city's construction unions all played a major role in the decision to seek out of state labor.
The cross-country hire has dealt a serious blow to the city construction companies, who had hoped to score the lengthy 15 year contract.
Hudson Yards is stated to include nine housing towers, three office buildings, stores, a new school and a cultural center. The project will begin construction later this year.
