Fall in Love with NYC Pets Month Activities - Other - Arts & Culture - NYC

New York City dog lovers were in full force during the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals "I Love NYC Pets Month" events. The Pre-Westminster Fashion Show, co-hosted by designer Ada Nieves and Gregg Oehler of Oehler Media, was held at Hotel Pennsylvania last month. Awards were given to several members of the dog community for their service and help. Team Jilli Dog, the only poker playing dog in the world, performed for more than 200 guests, and the show closed with the "Puptials" Ceremony with GOGO; a Westminster competitor as a loving symbol of our beloved companion animals and their proud parents.

On the same night was the Angel on a Leash cocktail benefit at The New Yorker Hotel in midtown. Hosted by David Frei, guests were treated to a NYC-themed runway and fashion show for the dogs and their humans.

A third event, this one on the Upper East Side, Giorgio, of TheNakedK9.com, and Lady B's Valentine's Day wedding and fundraiser for Ollie's Place was hosted by Erika Friedman's Canine Celebration at Petco on East 86th St and Lexington Avenue. More than 60 party-goers were in attendance with their pooches and all went home with wonderful goodie bags and treats from Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance.

Other events throughout the month included:

Animal Care & Control and Oehler media co-hosted a cocktail fundraiser at 91 Horatio to raise money and awareness for NYC's homeless animals.

The premiere of Doggie Moms of NYC, a new reality TV series on NYCLife (Ch. 25), premiered and follows the lives of five NYC dog moms and their pups. The show stars Erika, Karen, Grace, Ashley and Leslie and their pups. Haven't seen the show yet? Download it here

Free spay/neuter day was held at Sara D. Roosevelt Park on East Houston and was co-sponsored by the ASPCA, The Humane Society of the United States, and the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

Pups and their human counterparts were coiffed by stylist Mark Garrison at the Mark Garrison Salon at 108 East 60th Street. The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals' spokesperson Stephanie Mattera hosted the event. There was wine from Les Compagnons, snacks from Candle Cafe and 1st & fresh Catering NYC.

Finally, Rescuzilla Animal Rescue, run by Susan Cava of NYLovesDogs.com, hosted a fundraiser at Genesis Bar. Food, drinks and raffles were available to attendees.

P.S. The Naked K9, Giorgio, owned by AuntChristine Pellicano of Neighborhood Dogs, has announced his candidacy for President in 2012, running on the platform “A home for every senior dog and a senior dog in every home.”
