The key to effective treatment at Physical Therapy Arts is to allow the healing and restoration process to occur through integrative movements rather than in an isolated fashion. The greatest benefit for those seeking physical therapy is learning and understanding how their body works, how it can move differently, and how to take care of it. With physical therapy, you get hands on care with Ms. Zins that will help you develop an appreciation of your full potential.
Physical Therapy Arts was founded in 1993 by physical therapist and Feldenkrais Practitioner Frania Zins. She has a passion for helping people strive to reach performance and personal goals by reducing pain and restoring full function following injury or with chronic pain conditions. Ms. Zins received her Masters of Science degree at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1986 and independently studied a variety of movement and therapeutic methodologies. As a former professional dancer, Frania could see the subtleties of her patients movements and what challenges were getting in their way. She was attracted to the Feldenkrais Method immediately, finding that it gave her the tools to produce effective change.
The process begins with Frania performing an in depth evaluation, looking not only at your strength, motion, and posture, but also at the relationships of joint movements and muscle balances. She relies on her sensitive hands as well as specific tests to get a complete picture. Rather than addressing the symptoms alone, she tries to find possible causes in your movement patterns. After the evaluation is completed, Frania will make recommendations for your therapy treatment plan, which will include hands on time together and exercises for you to do at home.
For most patients, the return to health is revitalizing and completed without unnecessary pain. This is because the patient’s innate nervous system is actively involved; learning is taking place. Frania’s unique activity-specific functional approach allows for a quick return for dancers, athletes, performers or those who just want to move without pain to return to activities they most enjoy doing.
Ms. Zins works with people of all ages. “My youngest patient was three days old, and my oldest was 97 years old”. She works with people who have had injuries, had surgery, trying to avoid surgery, neurological deficits, chronic pain sufferers, and people who want to perform more efficiently in their physically demanding profession. She also works with patients for weight management goals and attaining healthier lifestyles.
"It’s such great work, because it’s so respectful of people," said Frania, who is both passionate and dedicated to helping others.
