The new traffic llight at Greenwich and Duane streets has alleviated many of the concerns among residents about the unsafe conditions of the area.

DNAinfo reports that The Department of Transportation stated that even though the intersection was close to two elementary schools, it was not busy enough to merit a traffic light.

However an accident involving a 3-year-old was the final push to enact the construction of the light, which was turned on earlier this week. Luckily, 3-year-old Ozzie Carty was not seriously hurt in the accident, but the incident was the catalyst needed to spark renewed interest from residents and politicians for safer measures in the area.

The DOT studied the intersection again and found that three weeks after the accident the dangerous intersection met the federal guidelines for a traffic light.
