Perhaps we spoke too soon when we reported in January that Pier 25 was "shipshape" condition. Even though the spot reopened to the public following renovations in November, Downtown Express is reporting Pier 25 is already experiencing maintenance problems. It appears that Pier 25 is chipping, cracking, and splitting apart.
Sounding somewhat dramatic, Downtown Express reports that cracks in pier's concrete paver walkway are now being investigated by Hudson River Park Trust. While the H.R.P.T. claims the cracks are nothing serious, as the damage may be due to the increased foot traffic along the pier, plans to replace the damaged spots are underway.
The pier will remain open during repairs.
