Everyone has experienced occupying an oddly shaped room at some point in their lives. Sometimes the doorway is too small to fit your best furniture, the ceilings may be a bit higher than you're used to, or there's just a uniquely designed ceiling that you just can't shake.
Yet, just because your room is a little out of the ordinary doesn't mean you can't have the New York pad you've always dreamed of and celebrity designer Ondine Karady is turning every room into a paradise.
On her most recent AOL and IKEA web-exclusive "Minute Makeover: Make A Small Bedroom Bigger," Karady proved just how versatile she could be by transforming a New York City bedroom into a fusion between old antiques and new design.
The show featured a long and narrow bedroom with a very high ceiling. While the room was highlighted with a technique that created an illusion of architecture on the walls with paint for a more defined look, the bed was too small and the room maintained a dull decor.
Karady gave the bedroom the grandious design that it deserved with a canopy bed which served the purpose of drawing your eye upwards and overall, filling the space. She also suggested that if your small room requires a healthy alternative, a higher bed board would also do the trick!
Originally, the bedroom featured an interesting paint job and antique dressers. To spice it up, Karady balanced this look with modern shapes, colors and patterns for a well-crafted mix of antique and modern furniture.
If you're looking to redesign your small, but cozy bedroom, don't be afraid to mix styles, patterns and colors to develop the look you are going for. For more tips and advice while you're redesigning, be sure to catch Ondine Karady's show.
