SoHo and TriBeCa residents, get your tastebuds ready for Fall! The NY Times on Wednesday revealed the best of the city’s new restaurant openings during our favorite season – with a significant number of eateries from Italian and Japanese to Mexican and even Polynesian, cropping up around your domain.
According to The Times, restaurateur Julie Reiner is bringing Polynesian-inspired fare and exotic tropical cocktails to the neighborhood with Lani Kai, to open this October. Also next month, Jehangir Mehta - owner of the brilliant Graffiti in the East Village - will be launching the quirky and inventive new Mehtaphor at the Duane Street Hotel, offering up dishes like beef tartare with guacamole sorbet, and churros with jalapeño ice cream (jalapeño? Really?). Also, a brand-new sushi spot by the name of Niko will be opening its doors (we can never have enough sushi in the neighborhood!). Last but not least, Andrew Carmellini of Locanda Verde will be launching his yet-to-be-named Italian-American café-eatery in the former Cub Room this coming November. We can’t wait…for all of them.
Lani Kai will be located at 525 Broome Street (between Sullivan and Thompson Streets). Mehtaphor will be located at Duane Street Hotel, 130 Duane Street at Church Street. Niko will be located at 170 Mercer Street near West Houston Street. Andrew Carmellini’s restaurant will be located at 131 Sullivan Street at Prince Street.
