Desigual, the Spanish based designer, held its first ever 'Undie Party' in New York and it was quite the success, with plenty in line braving the streets of New York. For two free pieces of cothing , a top and a bottom, how could anyone resist?
The earliest in line was here at 1am and while she was in her undies, she made the trek fully clothed. People trickled in afterward from then on, with some people lining up after 7am.
Everyone I talked to had brought a change of clothes. Jeans were definitely a must have for those wanting free clothing. The staff was promptly helping at 7am, giving totes away to stash the excess clothing that the people in line shed. There was a long enough line with plenty of enthusiastic people baring almost all. Some got creative, but most were willing to go with the bare essentials.
Crowds cheered whenever another citizen braved the lines. Curious bystanders were also on hand to witness the spectacle. The weather cooperated with the event as well, as it was a balmy 70 degrees. The official line started at 7am, with the store opening for those in line at 9am and open to the public at 10am. By 7:10am there were over a 100, close to 125, people in line.
Plenty of water was given and plenty of rambunctious people made for a very successful party. Desigual is hosting another 'Undie Party' at Desigual Midtown. Head over to the Desigual blog to learn more. Check out more photos of the event here.
Desigual SoHo is located at 594 Broadway between West Houston Street and Prince Street.
