The first Sunday of each month, Animal Haven pet shelter drives its mobile pet adoption truck, sponsored by Manhattan Mini-Storage, up to Fetch Bar & Grill from noon to 3pm. This past Sunday was no different, and there were plenty of people to look and inquire about the adoptable dogs and cats in the truck – and to eat at the restaurant.
This week, three cats, Gossip Girl, Florida and Shebo, and four dogs, Mecca, Amroc, Sammy and Florette, were the featured homeless pets up for adoption. Volunteer Sumeet Shah was on hand with Animal Haven's James Wendell to help all potential adopters pick their "purfect" pet. All of the anmals were incredibly sweet and would make excellent furfriends. Basic info about each pet:
- Gossip Girl is a 1.5 year old tabby who's quite talkative
- Florida is a few years old and an Egyptian tabby
- Shebo is a black cat with white socks (paws)
- Mecca is an incredibly friendly 13 year old chihuahua mix, who was surrendered by her owner who became ill; she has a chi sister also available for adoption. Last night, Mecca found a foster home.
- Amroc is a five year old chi-terrier mix and a puppy mill rescue
- Sammy is a three month old pit mix and came from a rescue organization in Georgia (one of the rescues that Animal Haven works with)
- Florette is a three month old lab mix who came from NYC's Animal Care & Control
More info about each animal can be found on Animal Haven's website. Typical adoption fees run between $250 to 350 for dogs and puppies, and $150 to 250 for cats and kittens.
Adam Powers, owner of Fetch Bar & Grill for 11 years and an avid animal supporter, said, "We've had a wonderfully productive seven year partnership with Animal Haven. It's one of the nicest, kindest rescue organizations with a no-return rate. They're not a puppy mill adoption agency just out to place animals in homes. They make sure that all animals go to good adoptable parents and homes." And Powers has a motto for all of his customers that ties in with his love for animals, "Fetch, the perfect place to find your new best friend while being treated like one of ours."
Aside from monthly pet adoption events, Fetch restaurant also holds benefit events for humans and animals, including partnering for the 6th annual American Cancer Society's Taste for Hope event on May 5th at 82Mercer. A popular Upper East Side eatery, Fetch serves more than 1,000 customers weekly. While dogs are not allowed inside the restaurant, customers who dine outside are allowed to bring their dog(s). Truly, everyone should go there at least once just to see all the pet photos on the walls and to look at the "Fetch A Friend" pet adoption board at the back of the restaurant (not to mention that the food is really fresh and overall, great!)
For more info about these and other adoption events, please contact Animal Haven or Fetch.
