The Museum of American Illustration is holding an exhibit to honor Pulp Art. In a time of secrecy and Leave it to Beaver, some artists dared to work with raunchy subject matter like violence, racism, sex, and crime. The collection of 90 works comes courtesy of Robert Lesser, who began collecting pulp paintings, comic books and comic-character toys in the 1950s and has written two books.
The exhibit will be open from June 2 to July 30 with special events including a night at the museum with Robert Lesser on June 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and a screening of a documentary on pulp art, Pulp Fiction Art: Cheap Thrills & Painted Nightmares.
