The Metropolitan Museum of Art is exhibiting a collection of works titled Spies in the House of Art that surveys how museums inspire the making of art. A selection of film, photography and video shows how a museum itself can be the setting for a new piece of art, or provide the sparks that lead to a blaze of new creative ideas, building upon and adding to a previous aesthetic experience. Although some artists joke that museums are mausoleums - a place art goes to die - this exhibit provides a place for it to be a living commentary on the life of a museum and the lives it inspires.
The Frick Collection is unveiling a new exhibition entitled Renior, Impressionism and Full-Length Painting, which features nine iconic paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renior. This exhibition will offer the first comprehensive study of the artist’s engagement with the full length format. The project was inspired by “La Promenade of 1875," the most significant Impressionist work in the Frick's permanent collection.
