The most expensive residential property listing ever to hit the Manhattan market is now available on the Upper East Side, located at 4 East 80th Street. It's an 18,000-square-foot, 35-foot-wide French Gothic townhouse built by Frank Winfield Woolworth for his daughters around 1915 – it's asking price is $90,000,000. Or if you’re not certain about the long term commitment, you could just rent it for $210,000 per month. Of course that might put a dent in last year’s bonus money. According to The New York Times, Paula Del Nuzio of Brown Harris Stevens has the listing, but it hasn’t been entered into OLR yet (the primary database for Manhattan brokers).
The townhouse has seven floors, an elevator, ten bedrooms, eleven and a half bathrooms, three kitchens, and a dining room with room for fifty guests. According to city records, the property was sold by the Young Men’s Philanthropic League in 1995 to Bob Roberts for $6 million before ownership was transferred to an LLC in 2001. Mr. Roberts is listed by the Department of State as the address for process for that LLC. His family members are the Roberts of Lucille Roberts, the women’s fitness center chain. In 2002, Idi Construction Company Inc filed a lis pendens (pre-foreclosure notice), but that was apparently all cleared up. With that behind them, apparently they’re looking to make a quick $84,000,000 profit (rough ROI = 14). That just happens to be about $37 million more than the most ever paid for a Manhattan residential property – the Harkness Mansion at 4 East 75th Street.
