The Municipal Arts Society announced winners of its annual MASterworks awards last week and Lincoln Center's Hypar Pavilion has won top honors.
The MASterworks awards honor projects that "make a significant contribution to New York's built environment."
The Hypar Pavilion was awarded Best New Building of 2011, along with the Norman Foster-designed Sperone Westwater gallery. It is a free standing structure on the edge of Hearst Plaza and West 65th Street. The pavilion is home to a new public lawn, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and an 11,000-square-foot restaurant.
According to Archdaily.com, the Hypar Pavilion boasts a 7,200-square-foot lawn surface that lifts up at two opposing corners. Underneath, an 11,000 square-foot restaurant occupies two levels with entrances from 65th Street and Hearst Plaza.
