Upper West Siders are in luck - Columbus Avenue is on its way to becoming the new shopping mecca.
The Meatpacking District is now on the decline as a shopping destination as more and more spaces become vacant along 14th Street between Fifth Avenue and Washington Street, reports Racked.
Stella McCartney even left MePa in May to open her new store in SoHo this January, telling Racked her new home is "a little more grown up."
But there to fill its empty storefronts are shops along Columbus, where construction is finished and finding a vacant space to sell is getting harder to find.
It's quite the turnaround from the mid-90s, when sewage line construction and a recession made for a foul locale. Now stores like Helmut Lang, Theory, Rag and Bone, Club Monaco and Intermix are bringing consumers back to Columbus.
