Fire broke out before 4 a.m. this morning in a Hamilton Heights apartment building, forcing two residents to jump from their four-story building.
The two-alarm fire broke out in a four-story building on 147th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.
FDNY Chief Raymond Stanton told CBS 2 that the fire seemed to have started from the second floor and worked its way up, forcing the residents to jump down to 147th Street and Amsterdam.
The two residents who jumped from the balcony, a 53-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were both seriously injured.
Stanton said the fire appears suspicious because of how heavy the flames were on the second floor.
The fire was contained in about 45 minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings.
