While some were gathering to watch the tree lighting ceremony at Bruce's Garden in Isham Park Wednesday night, others were busy snatching iPhones and wallets.
A man was on his way to the holiday event at about 6:15 p.m. when four teenagers approached him on the southern end of the park, reports DNAinfo.
He was on the phone with his sister, whom he was going to meet, when three boys and a girl approached him. After attempting to fight them off and injuring his right leg, they got away with his iPhone and wallet filled with all his money from work that day.
The man found several police officers that were already in the northern end of the park for the tree lighting ceremony. They drove him around in an attempt to identify the muggers, but they were not found.
It looks like the Upper East Side iPhone bandits have some competition.
