Best English Flavors Come from the Heart of Keswick
Best English Flavors Come from the Heart of Keswick - West Village & Greenwich Village - Shopping - NYC

For a small town, Keswick is big on flavor, and past the meadows of lush green trees and clear blue skies, Myers of Keswick can help you better understand where all that good flavor comes from.

Keswick is a market town and civil parish within the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria, England, about five hours northwest of London. The stunningly located town of Keswick in the Lake District is nestled on the shores of Derwentwater, and has a wide array of shops and galleries. The town lies between the impressive peeks of Skiddaw and Scafell, which is conveniently located a short distance from Bassenthwaite Lake, and covers one half of the Lake District National Park. It lies within the historic county boundaries of Cumberland and creates the perfect atmosphere for relaxation or action packed family adventures away from home.

Historically, the town was recorded in the 13th century as "Kesewic," meaning 'farm where cheese is made.' The name also derives part of its history from the Old English word "cese," meaning cheese.

An interesting fact about Keswick's history is that during the 16th century, small scale mining made it possible for the town to become the source of the world's first graphite pencil.

Yet, Keswick is rich in every aspect with five major lakes, picturesque valleys and unspoilt villages with the mountains of Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Scafell all within easy reach. In this valley of dreams, walkers and climbers are spoiled for choice with high summits, forest trails and lakeside paths that feature walking routes suitable for every thrill seeker's dream.

Today, the majority of Keswick's businesses are tourism related, providing accommodation and facilities for the tens of thousands of people visiting each year. Keswick is simply a place full of exciting choices and things to do including the food!

In case you're a plane ticket away from experiencing some of the best tasting food throughout Europe, Myers of Keswick brings the same great authentic flavors from Keswick to the United States. Peter Myers started the shop after visiting New York City and making the United States his home shortly after. With Keswick still on his mind, Myers offered his goods locally and soon became a huge success! Today, Myers of Keswick is a one stop shop for traditional British goods including fresh pies, sausages, dairy, packaged goods, groceries and gifts for the holidays.

Yet, the love Myers has for Keswick is just as fresh today as it was in 1972. The town continues to show its beauty and rustic charm with Victorian buildings and if you are ever in the area, you should consider touring the area by boat on Derwent Water. Myers of Keswick also reccommends that you stop by some of their favorite places including Mick Taylor's "Old Keswickian" fish and chip shop in the center of market square. Next, be sure to stop in at Steve Clark's Chip Shop "The Kingfisher," at the bottom end of town. Try any of his specials and you are sure to enjoy your stay in the heart of Keswick.
