There are a variety of elements all around us that have the capacity to be created into a work of art, and when fused together with harmony and balance, the possibilities are endless.

At Barking Lizards Gallery, art comes to life with a variety of sculptures, ceramics, paintings, and collages. From abstract sculptures to uniquely set artistic jewelry, Barking Lizards offers a wide array of shows for their Winter Show 2012, including this month's featured artist, Richard Drake.

Artist Richard Drake was inspired in his creative process nearly 26 years ago, while overlooking the vastly different landscape of New York City streets from his front step in his Williamsburg neighborhood. At the time, the waterfront and surrounding area were great for finding discarded objects and bits of rusted metal, all of which inspired him to turn his findings into art. Throughout his creative process, Drake has developed self-imposed problems to seek interesting and engaging solutions that work together to form his unique style of art. In this way, his goal is to create new life and purpose for these founds objects that have the capacity to be more than just a rusted piece of metal.

Drake's curiosity and passion consistently leads him on new discoveries of ways to find a connective energy that relates to both the environment and artistic expression. Within his work, you’ll find the rusty bits of found objects, along with physical forms of nature, all woven and connected with light.

The Winter Show 2012 will feature Drake's newest works, which are more refined and deliberation in their execution of displaying like and the experimental qualities of different elements. Much of his early work was focused on form over function, which are now in private collections, but will be on display during the show.

Barking Lizards Gallery invites you to view these light sculptures for an ultimate art experience during this exciting winter showcase. During the winter show, the gallery will spread a little more light in the world by donating a percentage of profits to the Craft Emergency Relief Fund and Artist Emergency service organization to benefit all artists.

The show will take place from January 19, 2012 through February 19, 2012.

Barking Lizards Gallery is the premier spot for artists to display their unique outlook on the world through art.
