Greenpoint, also known as the 'Garden Spot' despite its industrial landscape, is the home of a plot of wasteland that has been snapped up by local business, Domestic Construction. Their collective creative appetite has been whet by the possibility of turning this bare land into a community garden "focused on sustainability, food production, urban living, and art." Without their commitment, its fate may be that of many other small plots - a concrete parking lot.
In order to manifest their vision, the ladies of Domestic Construction are looking to neighbors to raise $22,000, via Kickstarter, to be spent on regrading the land, planting trees and beds, building greenhouses and creating a village for our feathered friends. With winter threatening a reappearance in a few short months, the time is now. Seriously, the time REALLY is now, given their Kickstarter deadline ends on Wednesday, August 24th at 2.35pm!
Once fully re-engineered, 'Design.Plot', as it is now known, will be open to the community for a dazzling variety of purposes including farming workshops, films, exhibitions in addition to its role as a sanctuary for relaxation. In a crazy metropolis where cars have more, and sometimes better, 'resting' places than people, it seems fair that we redress the balance. Why not click on the link and help them keep the 'Green' in 'Greenpoint'. There are even some exciting gifts on offer for those who love a carrot!
