I've been craving some good Fried Chicken and spending a bit more time in Williamsburg as of late. Word on the street was that Pies and Thighs was pretty good so it was time I gave it a go. Now while I like catfish, burgers, southern style brisket(sorry Mom) it was the Fried Chicken I came in for. They offer it a few ways...on a waffle, a biscuit...I went for a basket. You get 3 pieces(which turned out to be some of the better I've had recently), a nice big light fluffy biscuit, and a side. They were a number that piqued my curiosity so I tried a few.
The Mac and Cheese was excellent, very cheesy in a good way with a splash of hot sauce that really worked. The special side was Wilted Brussels Sprouts with bacon and pistachio vinaigrette which was pretty good(please note...these were the leaves not the bulbs), and of course I had to try me some of their baked beans with burnt ends. Now here's the thing...they tasted good but not dark, smoky and loaded with meat like I was expecting. Judges deduct a point here please.
Now onto their other namesake...Pie. I went with the seasonal special of sour cherry, pear, and ginger. It was good, fresh, and homemade tasting....but I didn't taste a whole lot of ginger. In all fairness ginger can be tricky...use too much and it will overpower everything else...which it didn't here...just didn't taste a whole lot either. It tuned out to be the coconut(love coconut and this was good) custard donut w/chocolate frosting that did it for me desert wise. All in all I enjoyed the meal and will add it to my places to go for Fried Chicken. I look forward to trying out some more pies and donuts. Now...time to hit the gym so this stuff doesn't go to my thighs...
Pies and Thighs is located at 166 S 4th Street corner of Driggs Ave (please note...no sign...so I included a pic)
