You know you're in Hipster Heaven when while putting half and half in your brew at a coffee shop the cute girl next to you looks confused by the milk/sugar/top bar and when you ask what shes looking for she replies "soy milk". Toby's Estate the coffee roastery from Australia is a welcome edition to the Williamsburg scene. It happens to their first location here in the states. They get the beans delivered here, roast them (what I thought was a giant grinder turns out to be a giant... roaster) and sell the beans wholesale. They also have a back room for classes to teach aspiring home Batista's the finer points of coffee brewing.
The cafe space itself is a very big open space, has a long black couch, lots of tables including a Huge wood community table. They offer Flat Whites(Australian version of cappuccino), Pour-Overs for $3-8 in a choice of 4 of their current beans, oddly enough...no drip coffee (would like to see that added to the menu) and if you're companion doesn't drink coffee they have a nice selection of Herbal Teas for $2-4. For when you need a snack they have Tim-Tams and a number of baked goods that include treats from Van Leeuwen(will they start carrying their ice cream...so they can make affogoto's...hint...hint:) On your way out you can pick up a bag of Toby's seasonal roasted in-house coffee beans for between $12-$32.
Toby's Estate is located at 125 N 6th St
